Shelby Gitlin, M.S., CCC-SLP
Pediatric Speech and Language Pathologist

Shelby graduated from Emerson College with a Master’s of Science in Speech and has worked in private, public and medical settings providing speech and language services since 1996. In addition to seeing clients in her private practice, Beyond Words Speech and Language Therapy, Shelby also works as a speech language pathologist for the Newton Public Schools in Newton, Massachusetts. She has provided diagnostic and therapeutic services to clients of various ages dealing with communication disorders including, but not limited to: apraxia/dyspraxia, articulation, auditory processing, expressive language, fluency, receptive language, social pragmatic and word retrieval skills. Her experience includes: the coordination and provision of direct and indirect services to clients; administering evaluations; the coordination and supervision of clinical staff; chairing and participating in Individual Education Program Team meetings; program planning for a variety of settings; development and implementation of individual and group client treatment plans; and writing and administration of home and community based support plans for clients and their families.  

Shelby is ASHA certified and and has her Massachusetts Educators license and Massachusetts State license in Speech and Language Therapy. She actively participates in continuing education development and has received an Award for Continuing Education in recognition of exceptional commitment to continuing professional education from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).  She has also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Newton Parent Advisory Council for Special Education for outstanding dedication to the children of the Newton Public Schools Special Education Program. Shelby has provided in-services/ informational lectures to parents, educators, colleagues and has most recently been given the honor of being asked to speak at the National Organization of Disorders of the Corpus Callosum Conference (NODCC).

She is a proud mother of two wonderful daughters.  Watching her children grow and develop is her greatest joy.  Children are capable of so much, and Shelby wants to do her part in helping them reach their potential. There is nothing like seeing a child accomplish something that he/she has worked hard to achieve.
